NEWESD 101 Board selects Robert Roettger as next superintendent

Completing its search for a new superintendent, the NorthEast Washington Educational Service District (NEWESD) 101 Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Robert W. Roettger has been selected as the district's next superintendent effective on July 1, 2022. Current Superintendent Dr. Michael Dunn will retire, completing his term on June 30, 2022.

Mr. Roettger has served as superintendent of Cheney Public Schools since 2016, a district enrolling more than 5,000 students in Airway Heights, Cheney and the West Plains. His career began in the Yakima Valley where he worked as an elementary teacher, literacy coach and staff developer.

Prior to becoming the superintendent in Cheney, his administrative career included five years as principal of St. John-Endicott Cooperative Schools in Whitman County and five years as superintendent for Lind-Ritzville Cooperative Schools in Adams County.

Collectively, Mr. Roettger has almost 16 years of administrative experience in the northeast Washington region, including nearly 11 years as a school district superintendent. Mr. Roettger and his family reside in Cheney, WA. He and his wife Esther have five children.
