2020 Classified Employee of the Year:
Robin Woltering, Palouse School District
As a paraeducator working in a small district, Robin Woltering’s connection to students runs deep; very deep.
In 22 years with the district, colleagues and parents alike have seen her magical bond with students. More than once, friends suggested she return to school to become a teacher. Always, she politely declined.
“I believe paraeducators are essential to the success of our special needs students,” she says. "We are able to work one-on-one and form special relationships with our students. No matter what your role, you should always embrace your gifts and fulfill that role to the best of your ability.”
It is an understatement to say Woltering has effectively embraced her role, helping her students maximize their own gifts. When colleagues nominated her for regional Classified Employee of the Year honors, they described her as a do-it-all performer with a penchant for going the extra mile.
They also lauded her uncanny ability to connect with kids, finding the right response for each student and situation. Whether the need is for a sympathetic ear, a hug, a pep talk, a good laugh or her presence at a school activity, students and staff alike consider her a hero who always inspires.
The regional selection committee agreed. NEWESD 101 is pleased to announce Robin as its 2020 regional Classified Employee of the Year.
“Your colleagues are in awe of the rapport you have with ALL students,” says reading specialist Jayne Oelsen. “They marvel at your quick thinking and keen awareness of students’ feelings and needs.”
While Woltering is quick to say education is a team sport, Principal Mike Jones says her individual efforts, positive attitude and genuine concern pay out-sized dividends in student growth.
For 22 years, Palouse has known it had a gem. Now the region extends its congratulations. Thank you, Robin, for following your passion, embracing your gifts and making a difference for a generation of grateful students.
