Spring Culinary Training

Farm to School Chef visits NEWESD 101
Posted on 04/14/2021
Last month, NEWESD 101's Child Nutrition Cooperative department had the opportunity to host a spring culinary training at the Talbott Event Center featuring Chef Kent Getzin.

A 39-year veteran of the food service industry, Getzin has garnered national recognition for the Farm to School and scratch cooking programs he and his team implemented during his 17 years as Wenatchee School District's food service director.

Nineteen northeast Washington school districts, currently enrolled in the cooperative, were invited to attend in-person or via Zoom to gain scratch cooking, kitchen equipment assembly, prep and clean-up tips from Getzin.

Through culinary trainings, menu assistance, nutrition analysis and other services, the cooperative seeks to improve regional school nutrition programs by bringing whole foods and scratch cooking to schools and connecting districts with local farms.
