Resources for Immigrant & Refugee Families

NEWESD 101 is dedicated to ensuring that all students in our region have access to the best possible educational environment and outcomes, regardless of local, regional or national factors. We are committed to leading, supporting, and assisting our school districts as they work to provide free, high-quality education to every student. As emphasized by State Superintendent Reykdal's guidance and communication, “State and federal law prohibit public school districts from discriminating on the basis of race, color, or national origin. State law also prohibits discrimination based on citizenship or immigration status.”

NEWESD 101 continues to prioritize creating an inclusive and welcoming space where all students and families are respected and feel safe, regardless of immigration status. Our mission is to ensure equal access to education while protecting the rights and dignity of everyone within our schools.

We recognize that recent national developments have created uncertainty and fear for many students, families, and staff members throughout our region. To assist, we would like to provide some helpful resources.

On January 23, 2025, OSPI issued the following guidance: OSPI Guidance – Protections for Immigrant Students in Washington’s K-12 Public Schools. We encourage you to review page 8, which covers Immigration Enforcement on School Campuses.

This page will be updated as more information becomes available.
