SCIENCE KIT COOPERATIVE

benfitsOne of our offerings, NEWSRC’S Science Kit Cooperative, aims to facilitate effective STEM instruction in schools and districts within the NEWESD 101 Region by providing high-quality hands-on materials and professional development opportunities.

NEWSRC’s Science Kit Cooperative started in 2006 as part of a LASER initiative with 6 schools. We have grown since then, expanding our offerings and providing support.

Participating districts can invest in a shared ownership model for science kits, which are rotated among different schools on a trimester basis. This approach promotes cost-effective access to science resources across all districts, ensuring equitable opportunities for students. The cooperative fees include tailored professional development to equip teachers with the skills and confidence to integrate these science kits into their classrooms.

Schools have the flexibility to choose from a variety of kit titles and curricula, allowing them to select the most suitable combination for their school and community.

All of the units we offer are aligned to NGSS and have appeared on the adoption list for many states. With the exception of our extension mini-kits and engineering kits, the curriculum offers digital versions of the teacher’s guide, student books and student sheets in Spanish.

Each kit has enough permanent and consumable supplies for 1 classroom. Elementary kits (K-2) are designed to accommodate up to 24 students, while kits for upper elementary (3-5) are designed to accommodate up to 30 students.

Middle school kits (6-8) are designed to accommodate up to 32 students. For middle schools who use the STC-MS kits, teachers who teach multiple sections of the same class can order class sets of consumables to use with the shared permanent items.
